Project description
The project is a multi-phased procurement to replace and modernize the aging medium-sized logistics vehicle capability for the CAF.
5 phases make up the project:
- Phase 1: Militarized commercial off-the-shelf trucks
- Completed in 2011
- Phase 2: Shelters
- Completed in 2015
- Phase 3: Kitting for shelters
- Completed in 2016
- Phase 4: SMP trucks, trailers, armoured protection systems and in-service support
- Phase 5: Minor infrastructure upgrades

2012
After considering the evolution of the market since the original announcement of the project in 2006, the first Request for Proposals (RFP) was cancelled.
2013
- January: Industry was engaged through a Letter of Interest
- July 23: Final RFP posted
2015
2 contracts were awarded to Mack Defense for the:
- purchase of:
- 1,500 SMP trucks
- 300 trailers
- 150 armoured protection systems (APS)
- provision of in-service support, including:
- spare parts
- maintenance
- project managements services
2018
- Contract options were exercised to bring the quantity of:
- SMP trucks from 1,500 to 1,587
- trailers from 300 to 318
- APS from 150 to 161
- The first 14 SMP trucks were delivered in April
2019 and beyond
- Contract option exercised to bring the quantity of trailers to 322
- More SMP trucks were delivered throughout 2019, raising the total in CAF possession to:
- 1401 of 1,587 SMP trucks
- 320 of 322 trailers
- 100 of 161 APS
- Final delivery of all trucks, trailers and APS are expected by fall 2020
