What do we buy
Public Services and Procurement Canada is to establish a NMSO for government departments, agencies, Crown corporations, and organizations participating in the Canadian Collaborative Procurement Initiative (CCPI). This procurement tool is used for the purchase of medical supplies and equipment are defined as a device which can be classified into one of classes I to IV by means of the classification rules set out in Schedule 1 of the medical devices regulations.
This includes medical devices as defined by the world health organization, which means any article listed below or other similar or related article, intended by the manufacturer to be used, alone or in combination, for human beings:
- instrument
- apparatus
- implement
- machine
- appliance
- implant
- in vitro reagent or calibrator
- software
- material
As part of the standing offer (SO), only the products under those categories will be authorized under the SO:
- medical equipment and accessories and supplies
- medical apparel and textiles
- patient care and treatment products and supplies
- mobile medical services products
- patient exam and monitoring products
- medical facility products
- medical diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine products
- independent living aids for the physically challenged
- intravenous and arterial administration products

How do we buy
Call-up procedures:
- Prior to issuing a call-up, users must identify the need and/or requirement and then consult the Product and discount template-modèle pour les produits et les rabais (PDT-MPR) to determine which SO holders offers the type of product required that best meet the technical merit on an item by item basis
- The users must document their procurements in accordance with existing procurement policies and practices within each client department
- The users will also verify that the offeror can satisfied the entirety of the order within the delivery times. The sale’s representatives are identified at Annex “E“—attachments, offeror contact information for each offeror
- Call-ups against this SO must be made using the duly completed forms identified (call-up form 942-3) or their equivalents by methods such as facsimile, electronic mail, or any other medium deemed acceptable by both the authorized user and the offeror
Socio-economic aspects
Suppliers will have an opportunity to update their published price list once a calendar year.
Value / Savings / Considerations
As a result of the business volume, economies of scale are generated by the use of the SO. CCPI participants benefit from having quick access to medical supplies and equipment as well as being able to use an efficient procurement method to fulfill their requirements.
