As of September 1, 2017, many of our standards were made available at no cost. Standards that have been jointly developed with other Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) or those adopted from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) are still available for a fee from our reseller partners.

Standard identification
Several elements are included in the numerical designation of a standard. For instance, the designation numbers: CAN/CGSB-12.1-2022 contain the following elements:

Other important terms related to standards
Adopted standard
A standard approved as a National Standard of Canada by a CGSB standards committee, with any modifications from the standard identified. The adopted standard may be republished or endorsed.
Republished standard
The standard is published under CGSB cover bearing the designations of the CGSB and of the originating organization with permission of the copyright holder. The preface of an adopted standard contains any variations required for use in Canada. An example of an adopted, republished standard is CAN/CGSB-48.9712-2022, which is also International Organization for Standardization ISO 9712:2021.
Reaffirmation of standards
The declaration that an existing standard continues to be valid as is and that it still conforms to the requirements of a National Standard of Canada.
